Niantic is seeking a hard-working and intellectually curious Geodata Scientist to join our team. As a Geodata Scientist, you will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing the geospatial data infrastructure that powers our games. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including game designers, engineers, and data analysts, to ensure the accuracy, quality, and relevance of geospatial data used in our games.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain geospatial data pipelines, ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of large-scale geodata.
  • Use statistical techniques and geospatial data visualizations to analyze geospatial data and derive insights that can enhance gameplay and developer experience.
  • Collaborate with game designers and engineers to integrate geospatial data into game mechanics, ensuring a seamless and immersive player experience.
  • Implement data quality control measures to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of geospatial data.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in geospatial data technologies and methodologies, and propose solutions that improve our geodata infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members and stakeholders, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings.
  • Required in-office 2 days on Wednesday and Thursday.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Geography, Geoinformatics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in geospatial data analysis, manipulation, and visualization.
  • Experience with geospatial databases and SQL.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice.
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams with ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including synchronous interactions with others.

Plus If..

  • Familiarity with geospatial data formats (e.g., GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML) and coordinate systems (e.g., WGS84, UTM).
  • Proficiency in geospatial data processing tools and libraries such as ArcGIS, QGIS, GDAL, or PostGIS.
  • Passion for mobile gaming and augmented reality.

The total compensation package for this position includes a new hire offer base salary range of $129,000 - $176,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.

Individual pay within this salary range is determined by work location and additional factors, including assessed job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
